This is going to be a two-part post…
I read a few reviews of the Givenchy couture presentation, and opinions were largely mixed. Personally, I was a bit worried when I saw the images. First thought, “Oh my God, NO! Tisci stole my idea!” While that’s a simply ridiculous proposition, it is true; I have pages of ideas (notes and sketches) that are VERY similar to these Givenchy garments. I suppose that’s why upon second, third, etc. viewings, I LOVED the looks. Fortunately, Givenchy found inspiration in Asia, and my perspective is firmly “Nubian.”
The predominantly white/creme color scheme and pop of color, was so spot-on. I feel like it just lends of bit of mystery and weirdness to the clothes. The feather detailing, unreal. I love how the looks read so clean; in reality, are quite obviously incredibly complicated.
Look 1:
The helmet makes me smile. Simply ridiculous. I wish the swan heads were nixed in favor of a more simple abstract wing curvature. I loved the back more than the front. You really appreciate the feather detail as it wraps around to reverse. The fall of the sleeves was effortless from this perspective.
Look 2:
OK, so this is the story I made up for this outfit (the type of stuff that runs through my mind on the regular)… Somewhere on earth there is an island nation completely isolated from the rest of the world. Society has progressed, uninterrupted for thousands of years, and the people have learned how to exist in harmony with one another, and the plants and animals on their tiny island. They built a great city, hidden behind a waterfall, and were largely content to remain there. Soon though, the people of the island realized that the earth was suffering, and so, many of the people who lived on it. A representative was chosen to speak to the other nations of the world. This is her outfit.
There is something so progressive about look two. The shape is conservative, the detailing is mysterious/modern and SO cool.
MUST LOVE GIVENCHY.
